Authorities say a man wearing body armor, holding an assault-type rifle was shot by police after a confrontation.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. Sunday at a Vallejo Starbucks.
Police say the suspect pointed the weapon at them. He pulled the trigger, but his gun malfunctioned.
He then ran off, police started chasing him. Police say the suspect kept trying to fire his weapon at the officers as he left the scene.
Authorities say the officers shot the suspect three times. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
None of the officers were injured.
Authorities plan to hold a press conference later today.
