Missouri Police Officers Resign After First Black Mayor Elected

In a backward, racist, Missouri town, which boasts a population of 713, the moment a black woman was elected as Mayor, 5 of the town's 6 police officers resigned citing security concerns.
Outgoing Mayor Randall Ramsey said the cops gave no notice and were joined by the city attorney, clerk and water treatment supervisor.
Disgraceful . . .

Wow, that's crazy! Talk about making a statement loud and clear. Well, you can't exactly blame her for being two faced, you know exactly where you stand with her, and she's not apologising for it. It doesn't make it right, but I guess it's her prerogative. I don't know how it is in the US, but if she were in the UK; that woman could very well have rendered herself unemployable, cut her nose to spite her face. She's basically showed her hand in a very public manner, it's made the news, everybody knows her stance on race relations. On that basis, not many (if any) companies would want to be linked with her and by association be deemed to be racist. She's either very stupid or brave.

This incidence only gives credence to the fact that racism is indeed alive and kicking in the US. How else would you explain this situation? By resigning so soon after the black lady is elected, that can only mean one thing.

That's ridiculous. When will the people of the world be more open-minded? It's already 2015 and acts of racism are still rampant.

If they have that much of a problem having a black person in charge then maybe they should have left the country back in 2008 when Obama got elected. Public service is no job for anyone with racist tendencies so despite the fact they are clearly despicable bigots, Missouri Town will be richer for not having them in their employ.

I was acquainted with someone who left Missouri last year, and I’m pretty sure mindsets like this were part of the reason. It’s indeed hard to believe people still think like this, but sadly it’s true, and stories like this just prove it. I do agree though, people with these tendencies shouldn’t be employed in public service, so ultimately these people have down the town a favor by resigning.

Is it possible this has little to do with race & might have to do with the mayors stance on unions? That tends to make people quit a lot faster than just racism. No one's a fan of their union being messed with.

It's a real shame that race issues still plague politics and major institutions like the police force at this day and age. I would like to see more state support meted out for the mayor, she's definitely really brave to put herself in such a position.
