Living in Fear

Do you live in fear because of occupational hazard? Everyday you are faced with life threatening situations. Do you sleep well at night knowing that at any time you could get serious hurt? What would happen to you family if you're not around?

Great question. I also wonder what it's like being married to an officer, or being the child. I imagine they might share those thoughts/concerns. I applaud the men/women and their families for their sacrifice. I know law enforcement gets a lot of negativity and criticism, but I am personally appreciative for them.

I don't think they think about it all the time. I knew a couple of cops when I was growing up and they seemed to be totally normal guys with a wife and kids and a pretty normal life. I think that's something you just have to accept when you decide to go into the profession and then put it out of your mind so you can enjoy life.

Am quite fortunate that my line of work does not present serious risks to myself but that is a question that lingers in my mind whenever i encounter scenes of accidents and i reflect on what could be the worst case scenario for my family when am not around. I honestly believe that we are here by the grace of God who watches over us every step of the way as life has become like a minefield where one moment you are here, the next moment you are gone.

No, I don't live in any kind of fear. The way I see it, fear is a deterrent to happiness and better thinking. Your best thinking is impossible when you're afraid. In fact, your thinking is completely arrested in fear, and if somebody is attacking you then fear alone is what killed you, because you panicked and did nothing but scream while the perp attacked you, when there's plenty you could have done to drop him to the ground and get away.

This is a great question, I don't know if I could be a police officer and deal with life and death situations, I don't think it's for everyone.

If you were able to get through the academy and then field training then you already know what is in stored. Police already have an idea with what they have to face everyday. It would be more than obvious that this is what they have to deal with.

You get exposed to different threats everyday and you will eventually wonder yourself that you are not bothered by the occupational hazard attached to your work. You will just get used to it. And your family must learn how to adapt to these changes. There might come a time when their lives maybe at risk but they should not be afraid and instead have a good presence of mind.
