I'm just wondering, after serving time as a rookie, does one start to branch out in different sector of the police force. You know, drug division......k9 unit?
 
To be put in a special section inside the police force you need a special set of skills. And for you to acquire that you must undergo a schooling program offered by the police academy. Other than that there are only few opportunities for an officer to be assigned in a specialized department.
 
Are these based on interest, availability, or recommendation from supervisors? I'd be curious how many people try to do something specialized and end up not really being up for it.
