Police arrested a Georgia couple after they found an abused, starving 15-year-old autistic girl locked in a tiny room, reeking of human waste.
The girl's mother, Jade Marie Jacobs, and stepfather, William Anthony Brown, appeared in a Gwinnett County courtroom Wednesday.
Authorities were notified by a nurse when the mother brought her daughter to Scottish Rite hospital and allegedly told the medical staff that she couldn’t deal with the child because she is autistic.
Police say the girl is currently in Scottish Rite. When she arrived she weighed 60 pounds. She had numerous lacerations and bruises consistent with abuse and sores indicative of being immobilized for a long time.
“The doctors believe that the sores on her knees and buttocks were from being confined,†said Cpl. Ed Ritter of Gwinnett Police. “We could say they purposely put her in tightly confined space.â€
According to police, Jacobs told the medical staff her child's wounds were from fighting with a sibling. The mom also said her daughter always refused to eat which blamed for the low weight.
Both suspects are currently being held in Gwinnett County jail. They are charged with malicious child cruelty and false imprisonment.

The good news in this story is that this girl will receive the help she needs to overcome the abuse she has gone through in the hands of her own mother. A helpline should be set up for parents struggling to raise special kids. I cannot even begin to imagine how a parent turns around and abuses the child they brought forth.

I consider people who do these types of things as spawn of the devil. The law needs to come down very hard on those who choose to do these atrocious acts. I feel sorry for the poor defenseless victim.

I understand that it is challenging to take care of a child with special needs but that gives them no reason to abuse this child. If the mother wasn't willing to provide for the child then she should have gave her up for adoption so that she could have a family that would live her. If I was the child, I wouldn't eat either if I was being abused. Thank god that she is getting the proper help now.
