Foreign workers

Are foreigners eligible to join the police force? If so, what criteria is used to vet them and do they undergo the same type of training as the citizens of that country?

In order for foreigners to join the police force, they have to first become citizens and before they become citizens there is an exam they have to take, that will qualify them to be citizens and they also have to have maintained good conduct through their stay there.

Foreign workers can definitely become the required police officers when they are the citizens of the particular country. I think it can be really helpful if they are totally the citizens of the country. Otherwise it is totally impossible to become officers.

Yep, I think that the only requirement is that you are a citizen, so if you are one it doesn't really matter were you were born. For all effects you are not a foreign anymore. :)

Its like if you want to get into the force there is always going to be some sort of test to take. Even as a US citizen you have to be in good standing. Every foreigner would have to make sure that they pass those exams if they want a chance in being a cop in the country they are staying in. That person has to check in with their countries' laws to see what the requirements would be before they try out for law enforcement.

In the UK, it doesn't matter what country you were born in. If you are a UK citizen then you are eligible to apply to join the police force.

It all matters if you are a citizen of the country. Once you become a citizen nothing can stop you from being a part of the city police academy.

Foreign workers are definitely allowed to become a part of law enforcement. The only process they have to go through is becoming a citizen, and passing an exam. After that, they are allowed to be hired to apply for a job as a police officer! Hope this could help.

Actually, almost everyone here is wrong lol. You do not have to be a citizen, but you do have to be a permanent resident (aka have your "green card'). Becoming a citizen can take many more years than getting a green card can, and many people with green cards ARE on the path to citizenship. But no, you do not need to be granted citizenship to be on a police force.

Well, I can't say everyone is an applicant in waiting. It depends on whether or not you also meet other qualifications. So, yes, go ahead & become citizens but not because you want to join the force. That seems counter intuitive.

It depends on the state if you are talking about the US, for example for the LAPD requires you to be a citizen or to have applied for citizenship. Being a permanent resident isn't enough.

The City of Los Angeles requires that a Police Officer candidate be a United States citizen, or that a non-citizen be a permanent resident alien who, in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), is eligible and has applied for citizenship.

During the selection process, each non-citizen is required to prove that USCIS accepted his/her application for citizenship prior to the date the Police Officer written test was taken.

California State law requires that citizenship be granted within three years after the employment application date. For information regarding citizenship requirements, contact the USCIS.

Getting the citizenship is most important as a foreign citizen who is interested in becoming a cop here in the US. I do not see anyone where I live who are trying to get their citizenship to become a police officer.
