Family killed by gas from rotting potatoes

This is a very tragic and strange story. I think I can believe it though. I once kept a bad of potatoes in a dark cupboard. I don’t know how long they had been in there. Then one day I realized there was a very foul odor in my home. I kept cleaning and spraying and couldn’t figure out where that smell was coming from. Then I came home with groceries one day and opened the rarely used cupboard. It was a horrible toxic smell. The potatoes had all turned wet and black and maggots were growing all over them.

Now if this is what happens to potatoes and it can kill, I’m really glad I eventually found them myself.

What? I love potatoes. I never thought that the gas they produce when they rot is toxic. This is such a terrible accident. That poor girl has been orphaned because of potatoes. :/
