Do Cops Feel Subordinate to Military?

I have to know. I was married into a military family, where the pride and esteem of the military is held with high regard. Although, and this is in my own opinion, many military personnel carry with them this aura of superiority, I feel that sometimes they feel as if they are superior to police. I have had the misfortune of being around my (ex)husband who is a Marine, during confrontations with law enforcement and the way he just whips out that military ID to a cop is quite arrogant, if you ask me. I always wondered how the police felt when someone of the military does that. Do cops ever feel as if military personnel are superior to them; not pertaining to the law, but just "feeling."

I don think the cops in anyway are inferior to the military. They have received the same amount of training, knowledge about weaponry and tactics and even investigation procedures. Military men might think they are superior because of the experience they have accumulated in the field but thats not the point. A police officer is an implementor of the law. And if someone violates it then he/she whether president or military should adhere to the law.

The two are in very different and equally noble fields. While one serves to fight on the battlefield, the other does so in their own homeland, both for the same reason of keeping the peace.

I don't think it's right to say that one is subordinate to another. However most elite military personnel might have undergone more training than their police counterparts and might see that as an excuse to place themselves on a higher pedestal.

I have the highest regard for both, it just seems, and this is from my experience, that a Marine can be arrogant when it comes to law enforcement. My ex got arrested twice while on leave and the way he taunted the cops as if he were superior was really unnerving. He is a hot head Marine and kept shouting his rank to the police. Thanks for your responses, I had always been curious how a cop would think when confronted by military.

I don't feel there is an hierarchy between the two, so I see no reason for cops feeling subordinate, it's just two distinct categories of services.

I hope that cops don't feel this way as I too have seen some members of the military display quite a lot of arrogance. I know there are a lot of them that are not like that, so hopefully any cop who has encountered someone behaving that way has also encountered some who are very respectful. These are two completely different fields, so there shouldn't be a "better than" mindset at all.
