A state trooper patrolling on Interstate 391 in Chicopee, Massachusetts was not fooled by the woman who placed a piece of cardboard on the back of her Honda Accord in a bid to pass it off as a license plate Tuesday morning.
State police said the trooper stopped the vehicle around 7:30 a.m. after seeing the plate, which had the letters and numbers drawn in pencil and colored in with red marker.
Above the numbers, in a combination of upper and lower case letters, stated the words "Aug Massachusetts" in blue. At the bottom, the suspect also had the italicized correct slogan "The spirit of America." However it did not have an inspection sticker.
"It's illegal," Trooper Nicole Morrell said. "To be on the road you need to have a registered vehicle and a proper registration sticker or you will get a citation."
According to Morrell, Johanna Baez-Rodriguez, 20, of Springfield was issued a summons to court for multiple motor vehicle violations, including operating with a suspended license and revoked registration.
"Moral of the story, if you shouldn't be driving, please don't," the state police posted on its Facebook page.
