A U.S. Navy sailor is in trouble after refusing to stand for the National Anthem played during a recent morning flag-raising at Pearl Harbor.
The sailor under investigation is Petty Officer 2nd Class Janaye Ervin.
The U.S. Navy began an investigation into the case after the sailor posted her actions on Facebook.
“I made the conscious decision to not stand for the Star Spangled Banner because I feel like a hypocrite, singing about land of the free when, I know that only applies to some Americansâ€, stated Ervin. “I will gladly stand again, when ALL AMERICANS are afforded the same freedom.â€
According to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, troops who refuse to stand for the national anthem could face prosecution for violating Article 92. Which says troops can be punished for failing to obey any general order.
