There are many false stories about widespread immigration sweeps that are running viral on social media and putting a lot of fear into many people.
It has affected many businesses across the country because so many people are staying in their homes.
“Because everybody’s afraid to come, everybody’s afraid to walk on Port Richmond, where there’s been fake news about raids,” said Cesar Rodriguez a Mexican restaurant manager.
Queens immigration advocate Fahd Ahmed is trying to is trying to put out the flames.
“There’s people that are afraid to leave their homes. There’s people that stopped going to work,” Ahmed said.
