What can I do to learn more about what being a police officer

I'm currently 16 years old and I think I want to do something in law enforcement. I think I like the idea of being a police officer because of all the cop shows I watch. I don't want to commit myself to doing this and then not liking it. What can I do to learn more about what being a police officer is really all about and not all the hyped up stuff I see on TV. What steps can I take to see if I would like being a police officer?

One thing you can try is call your local Police Department and see if they offer a Police Explorer program.
