Authorities say Tucson Police officer Timothy Coussens was speeding when he struck and killed a pedestrian Wednesday morning.
Officials say there isn't a crosswalk in the intersection where the accident happened.
"The intersection where the accident occurred is very dark and our initial indicators are that the pedestrian victim was wearing dark clothing," TPD Captain Clay Kidd said.
The 53-year-old victim was taken to University Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Tucson Police are currently investigating the incident. Officer Coussens is still on duty.
