Police say they have a suspect in custody related to the weekend assault that sent a police officer to the hospital with lacerations and other injuries.
The male suspect allegedly punched the officer so hard that he broke her teeth.
Police say the two officers encountered a woman and three men allegedly smoking pot near Park Ave and East 104th Street, shortly after 1 a.m.
One of the men tussled with the officer, then struck her in the face.
All four of the suspects that were being questioned fled the scene.
The officer was sent to New York Presbyterian Hospital, which has an emergency dental surgeon. She was released later that morning.
The suspect is being questioned at the 23rd Precinct.
