Steps that need to be taken to become K9 Handler

Can somebody give me some information on steps that need to be taken before an officer becomes a K9 Handler?

First you would need to be hired as a police officer. After that the next few years of your career you would have to be a top notch officer. Be a team player with outstanding work habits. Eventually when there is an opening available, all canditates would need to apply for the position. You would need to pass the exams to be promoted.
