Officials say the long hours that police officers are putting in, combined with the real estate prices being very high, it is forcing many San Jose police officers to live in RV's on the city's property.
Authorities said that overtime shifts have a lot officers working up to 17 hours a day. Unfortunately some of them live far from the Police Department. Therefore officers are forced to stay in an RV during the week. And on their days off they will drive home.
"It's embarrassing for any city," said San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo.
The city council is going to vote next week to declare a state of emergency and shift 47 detectives back to regular street patrol.
