Have you ever called in a tip?

When I ask this, I mean called either a hotline or 911 and gave some information either with your name or anonymously? Were you asked your name? Did you give it? What was the information? Did you feel awkward? What was your reasoning? Was it to simply help out, or was there a cash reward? Did you ever see any money?

I have never had to call in a tip. I would take money if it was ever offered, but it's usually only when someone is at least arrested, and sometimes convicted. I doubt that the reward would likely be fulfilled from a single tip.

I called 999 not too long ago actually as I'd just witnessed a drunk as heck guy stumble out of a pub, fall over three times before getting into his car, fumbling for about three minutes while trying to start the engine, and drive off. I'd thought about intervening and taking his keys, but he was twice my size and already had called me several horrific names when I'd asked him not to drive, so I just dialled emergency services. I gave my information when they asked, although I never heard anything back so I assume they didn't catch him.

I have also reported a drunk driver. I was in a bar and saw a very drunk man leave, go his car and drive off. I didn't think twice about doing this. I can let most things pass but drink driving is beyond stupid. It kills.

Haven't a clue what happened afterwards but at least I didn't get up the next morning and hear a report on the news about how someone got mown down last night!

Yes, when one of my neighbors killed another neighbor I called it in. I later had to testify in court over what I heard. Since then I've been more open to calling the police when I hear people fighting.

I have never called in a tip. I live in a region where people avoid associating with the police as much as possible. Last year, I went to the police station to ask a question in relation to my neighbor. I regretted going there because I felt threatened. I do not think that I would call in a tip unless it was life threatening.

Once there was a mess happening in my street and I called 911 saying that and I hung up, a few minutes later they came to check out, I didn't want to be identified.

Lolz..do prank calls count.??
I remember me making a prank call to 100 when i was 7 and telling them there is a robbery happening in my next street.I was too stupid to use my landline itself.I got a big thwack from my parents.

Muthoni, I would like to know where you live that it is so bad you feel threatened just by talking to the police? Is that how you feel personally (because of bad interactions with police in the past) or is that how most civilians feel? Police in America aren't well-trained (in my opinion) and some have authoritarian attitudes, but I can honestly say that I am not afraid to ask them for help when I need to.

I never have personally, but I have a friend who called a hotline about a gun that he found in a garbage can one day (which he left there, of course). Turns out the gun was a key piece of evidence in a murder case and my friend was rewarded $200 dollars.

I called in a tip on an ex who did me very wrong and then left a white lighter on his car to let him know he was going to jail. I've called in an obviously very drunk driver. I've also called in gun shots. Speaking of... I called in an attempted homicide when I saw a young guy get shot when I was at work. Right in the butt. Another kid got shot, but the cops were around the corner and one of my residents grabbed me and pulled me into a hallway and told me to forget about the damn cops before I get shot. That was a rowdier night. I don't miss that job much.

I have never called a tip, ever, and I truly hope I'll never have to. Neither did any of my close family. We've been pretty much isolated from crime and bad things, honestly.

One time I saw some suspicious looking kids sneaking around a house accross the street from mine. So I called the police, and the police apprehended them trying to break into the house. It is always a good idea to keep and eye out for suspious looking characters and call the police. It is always better to be safe then sorry.

I've never done it, but there have been a few times I've considered it. I ended up just telling myself it wasn't worth getting involved, not like they were issues that were incredibly serious i.e. murder.

I have actually did this for a person that was way to drink to drive. I called it in gave the operator the location in which they may find this person. I also gave make, and model of the truck. I didn't give my name just that I was concerned about the safety of both driver, and others.

I've never been in a situation to do so but I would like to think that if I did get to that situation I would do the right thing. I think a lot of people are scared that they will be found out and be accused of sticking their nose in. Those telephone lines are exactly for that purpose - community spirit.

I called in an anonymous tip to 911, I saw some teenagers breaking into a house so I called in and reported it. I then left the location, but I think the police apprehended them. They probably where just stupid kids looking for easy drug money.

The most I've done is drop a tip in a suggestion box alerting the area cops of a business premise that hired underage kids and was exploiting them a great deal.To my uttermost disappointment, nothing was done about it and i had to seek the help of the children's department who swung to action almost immediately and arrested the owner.
