8808425.jpgNewcastle, Ontario. –An Ontario family is in shock and heartbroken. On Friday, Brenda Millson, the grandmother of a 13-year-old autistic boy received an anonymous hate filled letter in the mail.
The one page typed letter demands the family to “move or euthanize†the teen because he is a “nuisance†to the neighborhood.
The author of the letter claims to be a mother who lives in the neighborhood and was annoyed with the noises Millson's grandson Max made while playing outside.
Millson said she immediately called the police after reading the letter.
Police said they have been investigating since Friday.
"We are certainly taking it seriously," spokesperson Jodi MacLean said on Monday.
"We are consulting with the Crown to see if there is any criminality that went on with the letter."
"At first I couldn't believe what I was reading," she said, adding that she was shaking in disbelief.
Millson said Max has been visiting her home, and he lives with his parents and older brother in Oshawa, Ont.
"It's just so sick," she said.
“I was shaking when I read it,†Millson told reporters. “It’s awful words. You don’t know why somebody would ever do such a thing.â€
The author of the letter signed the letter, “One p---ed off motherâ€
“Personally, they should take whatever non retarded body parts he possesses and donate it to science,†the poison-penned letter sent Friday reads. “What right do you have to do this to hard working people!!!!!!! I HATE people like you who believe, just because you have a special needs kid, you are entitled to special treatment!!! “Go live in a trailer in the woods or something with your wild animal kid...do the right thing and move or euthanize him.â€
The boy’s mother, Karla Begley, 44, who is in a wheelchair with multiple sclerosis, told police they had never seen a letter "that despicable."
The heartbroken grandmother said Max is a wonderful, sweet and lovable boy with a 16-year-old brother who was "infuriated" and "disgusted" by the letter. She added that the person who wrote the letter is "pretty gutless."
When the public heard about this horrible incident, over hundred fifty people came to the house to show their support. Families with autistic children drove in from Oshawa to show their support.
"Max was high-fiving everyone. He didn't understand but knew it was for him," Millson said.
The support for the family has been "bittersweet," adding it's too bad it took such a letter to bring attention to a special needs child, Begley said.
"It's just a reminder, you know, you've got to treat these kids like they need to be treated," Begley said. "They just want to belong."
