Georgia parents have been arrested for serving their 2-year-old son liquor, causing him to have alcohol poisoning.
Jasmin Briana Moore and William Chester Hickson were both arrested and charged with cruelty to children in the first degree, according to Cobb jail records.
Police were called after the couple brought their son to the hospital because he was unresponsive and had stopped breathing.
The Cobb County couple allegedly gave their child a mixed alcoholic beverage consisting of Coca Cola and 40-proof brandy.
Authorities reported that the child’s blood alcohol level was 0.29, three times the legal limit for an adult in the state of Georgia.
“Said accused did give the victim, a 2-year-old male child, a mixed alcoholic beverage which consisted of Coca-Cola and 40 proof Paul Masson Brandy, or said accused
had knowledge that said child was drinking said alcoholic beverage and allowed the child to continue drinking in the presence of said accused,†according to both warrants.
The incident happened Saturday night. Police arrested Hickson on Monday, and Moore was arrested on Tuesday.
Both parents remain in jail on a $75,000 bond.

I don't know what these people are thinking, a helpless 2 year old being given alcohol, is everyone crazy?

That is the problem with abuse of alcohol; it diminishes the thinking capacity of any person. Maybe their son kept asking for a sip and they thought that mixing it with cola could not hurt their baby. I feel sad for them because they were not deliberately trying to hurt their son.

Unfortunately even dumb irresponsible people like these can be parents, I feel sorry for the child for having such terrible parents.

Yes, it's true that a child can be born to parents with no parental instincts. So it doesn't follow that an adult is automatically able to nurture and protect a child just because they're an adult, often so, a child needs protection from their parents and other adults.

Just like we wouldn't breed animals with faulty genes, I think there needs to be a global law that has prospective parents undergo test aimed at ensuring that they understand their obligations to their unborn children. If they cannot pass then its a NO.

I wish something like that could happen but there are so many unplanned pregnancies that it just wouldn't work :( What a wonderful thing it would be, though!

In response to the article, thank goodness they're both still locked up. Goodness knows what they'd do to that poor baby next.

That's an interesting thought. But such a test can be passed in flying colors because most humans are not really as ignorant as they pretend to be. It's a scientific fact that most crimes are committed out of emotions, not ignorance. Anybody can play dumb after they did something they knew was wrong to begin with, and therefore they also can play like they're on the ball and pass a childcare test too.

For instance, if this couple were tested and asked if a child should be given alcohol, there's no way they would answer yes. Understand? They would answer no because they innately know better. But that doesn't mean that they will do what they know is right and not do what they know is wrong. Because whatever they do is triggered by emotions and what they feel like doing at any moment.
