I know that some people still use these devices, but I am not sure they are still being made and sold. If you are old like me, you might remember them from when you were a kid. They were small devices that plug into the cigarette lighter, and you put them on your dashboard. If it detected a radar signal, it would beep like crazy. I would think that they were not very effective, because the time it detected the signal, the police were tracking your speed, and you would be busted regardless. Also, it seems illegal, but then again, the radio and TV warn you about speed traps. Anyone know if these devices are still sold?

In my country, people have this kind of device too, but most of them stopped using these because they were illegal. Also, to combat this, the police got some new kind of radars, undetectable.

I've never heard of this device, but it sounds interesting, and I'm not surprised to hear that it's illegal. The best way to not get a ticket for speeding? Don't speed! The extra few minutes you save are probably not worth the risk of a $100 something ticket.

These devices are still in use but I don't know about the legality of them. From what I've heard, people use them when they're traveling on long trips.

While I don't own one I've heard that the reliability of these devices isn't that good. There might be false positives, and sometimes there might be no beeps at all. I think it depends on the police equipment which may differ between departments.

I've heard of people eavesdropping on police scanners as well, personally I think that it might be the more reliable option.

Those devices are unheard of in my locality but i once saw them in a movie where a bunch of thugs were being trailed by cops.It didn't well for them.

Thank you for all of the replies. Although they might have worked, I really think it was a fad of the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. I figured they might still be available in pawn shops and such places, but wasn't sure they were being produced anymore, since I don't know anyone who has them anymore. The devices were more novelty than useful contraptions.
