Authorities say the Florida police officer has been fired after the accidental shooting death of a Twin Cities woman during a role playing exercise last summer.
Lee Coel is facing felony manslaughter charges in the death of Mary Knowlton.
His attorney stated that Coel was unaware there was live ammunition in his gun while he was the 'bad guy' in a 'shoot-don’t shoot' simulation in which 73-year-old Knowlton played the role of the police officer.
The city stated in a letter to Officer Coel that he should of followed up with "appropriate and reasonable steps to ensure the safety of Mary Knowlton and in failing to ensure that no live ammunition was used during the exercise."
Coel's arraignment hearing is scheduled for April 10th.
