Police say a 25-year-old Neilson Rizzuto who allegedly plowed into a crowd of people enjoying the Krewe of Endymion parade in the Mid-City section of New Orleans is being investigated for driving while intoxicated.
“We suspect that the subject was highly intoxicated,” said Police Chief Michael Harrison.
Twenty-one people were hospitalized after the crash.
Rizzuto is being charged with reckless driving, causing serious injury and hit and run driving. He is being held on $125,000 bond at the city’s jail.
