A Polish couple has died after falling hundreds of feet from a cliff in Portugal while apparently trying to take selfies, according to investigators.
The tragic accident happened on Sunday when the parents of two children attempted to take some photos of themselves on the rocky edge of a cliff in Cabo da Roca. On the west coast of Portugal that looks out over the Atlantic Ocean. It is a very popular location for tourists in the area.
Their two young kids, ages 5 and 6, were with them at the time and witnessed the horrible accident.
A Spanish couple that was also on site called emergency crews and rescuer workers tried to recover the bodies using a helicopter. However weather conditions and the rising tide on Saturday forced them to abandon attempts to recover the bodies. The bodies were eventually recovered on Monday.
Authorities didn't release any other information about the accident, but it looks like the couple crossed over safety barrier to reach the cliff edge.
The children will be placed with relatives as soon as they arrive in Portugal.
