Police were called to a family's home after Child Protective Services received a tip about the boy's living conditions.
The parents allegedly would stick their 11-year-old autistic son in a dog cage until he would calm down from his violent outbursts.
When the police arrived at the home they didn't find the boy in the cage. However there was a mattress inside and it appeared that someone lived in it.
"The child had apparently become too difficult to control, so the parents resorted to the cage," said Lt. Bob Dunn, the Anaheim Police spokesman.
"Perhaps because of some of the outbursts that occurred because of his autism, the family was having difficulty coping with that and controlling that," Dunn said.
Care workers are having a hard time communicating with the boy because he is unable to communicate with others.
The parents have been identified as father Loi Vu and mother Tracy Le. They have been arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and false imprisonment.
The boy was clean and looked nourished, however authorities are concerned with underlying medical conditions.
"Other than perhaps living in that cage, there was no other signs of any type of abuse that were visible to the officers," said Dunn.
Authorities have taken the boy and his two siblings into protective services during the investigation.
More details in this story will be released as soon as they are made available.
