Boring days

Are there any cities where police officers are bored most of the time? Is there a place where they can go days on end without any sort of calls or anything that requires police attention? I have always wondered that. I know that even for most small cities, there is something that requires police attention on a daily basis. But what places are not and how do these police officers feel about their job?

I have a friend who used to be a police officer in a very small southern town and yes there are days where literally nothing happens. They are kind of rare, even in a small town, but it does occur and they have to find ways to occupy their time. There was one Christmas day that my friend had such a slow day at work that he was actually allowed to go home and hang out with his family while waiting to see if any calls came through on the radio.

I'm not sure about cities but definitely in small towns away from big cities. I've seen it in Japan, they are all so relaxed because every body knows each other. So when a new comer comes to town, every body will know about it.

Yep, I guess there are places like that, the same with the military. There are boring days, but you need to be prepared to be in action all the time.

I do not think there is any place that can be helpful enough to make the police officers rest in peace. I do not think it is best if the police are not very active.

The police probably do get some slow days. It is more likely by luck that would happen. If you are in cities like Los Angelos then you can forget about that. Those officers are working around the clock to prevent crime from destroying the public.

Not in a city, but there are ones in the southern part of India, some close to my village where it is all peaceful and there are no riots/disturbances.Cops there lead a life that is often enviable.I can say they might attend to cases,in a frequency of around 5-10 a month, mostly minor ones.

I live in a small town and I know the cops very well. They are bored a lot of the time when college isn't in session (Xmas, Summer break) and then the town dies down to 5k-10k people. With college in session the town is like 30k-40k people and seems like an even bigger number of cars, lol. But the point is when it dies down they say they're bored. But with a limited number of people even on shift, I doubt they have time to be bored. I see our cruisers constantly cruising, only stopping to talk late night or dead times (in the afternoon during sessions when college is in.)

I've heard some stories of bland days, but I have to think - isn't it better for cops to have boring days? That means things are going right in the world for a bit, or at least the idiots have the common decent to be doing it inside their own houses.

Yeah, I'm sure in small villages and towns there are lots of slow days but the cops probably have things they can do when there is, I know I've heard of cops playing cards when there's nothing else to do. It doesn't sound so bad to me, surely if there's nothing going on they can browse the internet or read a book.

If I were a cop I'd much rather have boring days, at least that means there's nothing dangerous going on. I remember a couple of years ago a cop in Middleburg, Florida got killed when investigating a house that was suspected to be a meth lab and the cops and people in the area were shocked because violent crime wasn't common there. It was supposed to be a safe place to be a cop - as far as I remember there hadn't been any cops killed before then.

I've been to a few places where there really hasn't been any crime, where the biggest issue is a cat getting stuck up a tree! It's probably pretty boring in places like that. And it just feels like all that training was wasted.

It is true that the days are getting quite boring compared to the usual normal days. I think I should try out something adventurous. I hope to soon try it very well.
