As an officer it must be hard not to use your own justice

We are all humans, and we all have emotions. When we see an innocent hurt by a predator, we immediately take to the offense. We want to rectify a wrong, and we want to avenge the victim. As an officer I am certain they see this scenario much more than civilians. I wonder how hard it is to not take matters into their own hands, but instead detain, arrest, and deliver the perpetrator to jail without beating them senseless? What do you think? Do you think police become "avenging angels" very often?

No, i don't think that they do for the most part. As much as you see news stories about "bad" cops, the majority of them are just doing their job to uphold the law. They aren't out there acting as vigilantes.

A policeman should always be guided by the law in the course of his duty. It's only when he's in a situation where he's in grave danger or the life of a citizen is under threat that he should rely on his instincts and training when handling the situation.

I don't think so. I won't completely base my entire opinion on what the media tells or shows us because often it is just good television and not entirely the truth. However, I do have a few cops in the family and I feel that they have seen and done enough that they let their own emotions get in the way. It's kind of similar to the medicine field. Doctors eventually treat the human body, as just a body and are able to set aside their personal beliefs.

I know the media always shows the dark side of the world. Most of the time if an officer makes the news, it is because he's under the thumb of investigators for possibly doing something wrong. I understand that most cops are responsible, and do their job heroically. But they are humans. The biggest flaw of the human design is emotions. I don't think anyone can completely separate who they are from their job. Emotions can lead to bad choices.
