A Feel-Good Story

On Christmas Eve last year, a police officer was called to a store to arrest a shoplifter.

When he arrived at the store and learned that the shop-lifter a 47 year old grandmother was stealing eggs to feed her family [two daughters, a niece and two young grandsons] the police officer a 23-yr-old young man instead of arresting her decided to buy her a box of eggs.

Sweet?

It gets even better. Someone who'd filmed the whole thing posted the vid on Facebook and it went viral. And the police officer's act of kindness inspired others to donate food. A lot of food which took Stacy [the police officer] an entire shift to deliver to the woman's house.

“Sometimes, little things make a big difference...â€

I've seen a similar story where the police officer bought the eggs for the shoplifter and let her off in Family Dollar. I think it's sad that people don't go to food banks because of the stigma and maybe the authorities need to do more to help people?

The police aren't all heartless, but it shows that there are problems in society that can be solved and hunger is one of them.

Sadly that food won't last and the right kind of help will never come. It is a nice story.. I just wish people would focus on the problem and not on a quick act of kindness to make themselves feel better. I know.. bummer response lol.

That was a great action. Arresting a grandmother trying to buy eggs would be criminal so nothing like doing good actions for those that really need to be supported.

That is really sweet, but I do agree that different kinds of help are needed here as well. The larger problem of he families income needs to be addressed, but hopefully now that her story is out there, she or other member so the family might have a better chance of getting a job.

It's really too bad that there is such a stigma about needing help. I wish people could understand that so often it isn't because the person is lazy and not trying to make ends meet themselves, it is usually an issue of lack of opportunity at the time.

Wow..That really brought down a tear.It really was melting and i too would have done the same thing had i been the cop.
A very much appreciable act.

I wonder if this female does have a food bank in her area, it is sad that someone would have to resort to stealing to feed the kids. It is not right, but at least she stole a cheap food like eggs as opposed to a steak or something fancy. It is nice to hear that people stepped up their donation efforts to help the community and this family in need.

Aww. That's very sweet of the police officer. Anyway, the real help is not really food, but employment. The grandmother's two daughters should really seek a job so their mother should not be tempted to shop-lift again just to be able to feed them.
