self sponsor academy

I live in California and I was looking for some information about the police academy. How long is it, and how much does it cost to self sponsor? What do I need to bring with me when I get in? Thanks in advance for your help.

Is self sponsor police academy valid only in the state that you graduated from or is it valid throughout the whole 50 states?
